Philanthropy

Tri Delta’s national philanthropic program is children’s cancer charities, which encompasses a range of efforts both nationally and across the local chapters. (See http://www.tridelta.org/philanthropy for more information.)

The Wilmington alumnae chapter’s impact is reflected in the faces of the children at A.I. DuPont Hospital as they watch the fish swim peacefully in the fish tank in the oncology unit or listen to music on their DVD players. Over the past two years, we have been pleased to be able to provide wigs to three young girls who lost their hair as the result of chemotherapy, softening the impact on their self-images. We also donated an anatomical rag-type doll now used as an aid by medical staff in conversations with patients and their parents. Being able to visualize treatment through use of the doll greatly improves understanding of treatment and helps reduce anxiety.

In addition to cancer charity, the Wilmington alumnae chapter also has contributed to the Down Syndrome Buddy Walk and Survivors of Abuse and Recovery (SOAR).

We believe deeply in the importance of this aspect of our activities and look forward to continuing to help those who face life’s greater challenge
